Ben Greenfield is a health consultant, speaker, and New York Times bestselling author of a wide variety of books, including the popular titles Boundless, Boundless Parenting, Boundless Kitchen, Beyond Training, Fit Soul, Spiritual Disciplines Journal, Boundless Cookbook, and Endure

Raised in rural North Idaho, Ben was homeschooled from kindergarten through twelfth grade. He was a complete nerd—president of the chess club, a violinist for 13 years, an avid fantasy writer, and a lifelong bookworm.

Graduating high school at 15 and starting college at 16, he studied anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, pharmaceuticals, microbiology, biochemistry, and nutrition—earning a 4.0 GPA and graduating at age 20 as the top senior at the University of Idaho. He completed internships at Duke University and in the NFL while working as a bartender, trainer, nutritionist, and coach. During college, Ben also served as president of the triathlon club, played for the men’s tennis and volleyball teams, competed in water polo, and was a 215-pound bodybuilder at 3% body fat.

Ben was accepted into six medical schools but chose instead to pursue a master’s degree in exercise physiology and biomechanics. In 2005, he dove headfirst into the fitness world, partnering with physicians to open a series of personal training studios, gyms, and physiology labs across northern Idaho and eastern Washington. In 2008, he was voted America’s top personal trainer.

While building his brick-and-mortar fitness business, Ben competed as one of the top-ranked amateur triathletes in the world, completing more than 120 races and 13 Ironman triathlons. He raced for the elite Team Timex multisport team, won a gold medal for the USA in long-course triathlon, and led squads of swim, bike, and run enthusiasts on guided adventures through Hawaii, Thailand, Japan, and beyond.

After becoming the father of twin sons, Ben shifted his focus toward writing, speaking, and consulting. He launched one of the world’s first fitness podcasts (Boundless Life), became a New York Times bestselling author of Beyond Training and over a dozen other books, and started a blog that now reaches over a million readers each month. 

While making a name for himself as a relentless self-experimenter and biohacker, Ben became a professional obstacle course racer; completed the coveted Spartan Delta; trained with the Navy SEALs; competed across the globe in open-water swims, mountain runs, and adventure races; won multiple USA bowhunting competitions; and appeared on some of the planet’s toughest reality TV shows.
